For immediate release:

SACRAMENTO, CA – On Saturday, September 16, 2023, Assemblymember Stephanie Nguyen (D-Elk Grove), presented the City of Sacramento and the Greenhaven Soccer Club (GHSC) with a $1.35 million check that will provide much-needed renovations to Garcia Bend Park’s aging soccer fields.

“I am thrilled to provide this critical funding to support the Greenhaven-Pocket Community with grass fields to ensure the safety of the youth,” said Assemblymember Stephanie Nguyen. “It brings me great joy to know the renovations will not only be beneficial to the youth but to all community members who come to enjoy the park and all that it offers.”

Garcia Bend Park is home to three soccer fields that GHSC has relied upon to host soccer clinics, practices, and games for over four decades. These fields are heavily used and are in need of improvement for the safety of our participants and enjoyment by our community.

“Greenhaven Soccer is profoundly grateful to Assemblymember Stephanie Nguyen for providing the funding for the complete renovation of Garcia Bend Park. Garcia Bend is a focal point in our community, and is heavily used by children and families, as well as for a wide variety of events,” said Beth Koster, President of GHSC. “This renovation will have a direct, positive impact on the quality of life in the Pocket/Greenhaven neighborhood.”
