Assemblymember Levine Introduces The California Catastrophic Wildfire Insurance Act To Ensure Accessible And Affordable Property Insurance For Californians

For immediate release:

(SACRAMENTO, CA) – As California experiences another devastating year of wildfires and concerned by the lack of action to address the waning availability of homeowners’ insurance that his constituents and so many Californians are experiencing, Assemblymember Marc Levine (D – Marin County) has introduced AB 1522, The California Catastrophic Wildfire Insurance Act.

“The California Catastrophic Wildfire Insurance Act is a comprehensive and necessary plan to enhance wildfire management and protection measures while establishing the financial structure and support necessary to bring stability and affordability to the California property insurance market,” said Assemblymember Levine.

The California Catastrophic Wildfire Insurance Act provides catastrophic wildfire insurance to homeowners who are unable to secure such coverage elsewhere; a wildfire protection program to provide home hardening inspections and guidance on how to harden homes against wildfires, offering grants for costs associated with the recommended improvements; and authorizes catastrophic wildfire insurance policies with up to a 20% discount for implementing wildfire protection measures.
“It seems as though all we hear is that homeowners’ policies are not renewed or that prices are getting jacked up sky high. We need solutions to protect Californians and this is the first comprehensive plan to do so. We can’t wait forever. We must act now,” said Assemblymember Levine.
