State Allocates Funds to North Bay Fairs

For immediate release:

(SAN RAFAEL, CA) – The California Department of Food and Agriculture has allocated funds from Assembly Bill 1499 (Chapter 798 of 2017) and Assembly Bill 75 (Chapter 9 of 2020) to the followings fairs in the North Bay:

  • 4th District Agricultural Association Sonoma Marin Fair - $212,410.00
  • Marin County Fair -  $77,480.00
  • Sonoma County Fair - $199,00.00

Under AB 1499 (2017) the Fairs and Expositions Branch of the Department receives three-quarters of one percent of the total gross receipts of sales and use of tax sales occurring on California’s fairgrounds’ properties. The funds received for fiscal years 19-20 and 20-21 were distributed and used towards specific uses such as public health, safety, infrastructure, deferred maintenance and other general projects.

In June 2020, Governor Newsom approved a budget augmentation under AB 75 which provided $40.3 million in General Fund support for District Agricultural Associations and the California Exposition and State Fair that employs state and service workers.

“Local fairs unite our community through agriculture and activities for everyone living in the North Bay,” said Assemblymember Marc Levine. “These funds will provide meaningful support to our local fairs so our community can continue cherished traditions.”
