For immediate release:

(SACRAMENTO, CA) – Assemblymember Marc Levine (D – Marin County) today released the following statement in response to Governor Gavin Newsom’s 2021-22 state budget proposal.

“Governor Newsom’s proposed budget reflects the urgency of California’s fight against COVID-19. We must deploy all necessary resources to fight the coronavirus and I am encouraged that the governor is prioritizing this year’s budget to increase COVID-19 vaccination rates, safely reopen our schools and support families and small businesses that have been financially impacted by the pandemic.”

“California must also work closely with the incoming Biden administration to ensure that the necessary resources and coordination between federal, state and local partners are in place to save lives, save our economy and successfully defeat COVID-19.”

The Legislature will begin holding public hearings on the 2021-22 budget proposal in the coming weeks. The California Constitution requires the Legislature to approve the Budget Act by June 15, 2021.
