(SACRAMENTO, CA) – Assemblymember Marc Levine (D – Marin County) today released the following statement in response to actions taken by Governor Gavin Newsom to limit the public health and economic impacts of COVID-19 on families and businesses throughout California.
“With increases in COVID-19 cases reaching unprecedented levels, we must take additional actions to stop the spread of this deadly virus,” said Assemblymember Levine. “While many of these decisions are difficult, I support Governor Newsom’s actions to reduce COVID-19 transmissions in the state. Many hospitals in the state are at or above capacity to properly care for COVID-19 patients, so we must take on additional personal responsibility to help stop new infections.”
“Additional restrictions discussed by Governor Newsom to limit the spread of COVID-19 could have serious economic impacts on small businesses across the state, which is why I am pleased to see Governor Newsom’s plan to expand economic aid to businesses impacted by the coronavirus. Temporary tax relief for California businesses will provide billions in economic aid. The governor’s expansion of the California Rebuilding Fund will also provide critical grants to support small businesses through the most challenging economic crisis of our lifetimes.”
“Today’s actions are only the latest of California’s actions to defeat COVID-19. With the new legislative session beginning in a week, my legislative colleagues and I are fully focused on directing all necessary resources in the coming year to protect all Californians from COVID-19.”
