Assemblymember Marc Levine Statement on Passage of The Golden State Energy Act
(SACRAMENTO) – Following the California State Assembly’s passage of the Golden State Energy Act (SB 350, Hill) Assemblymember Marc Levine (D – Marin County) released the following statement.
“PG&E is a failed corporation, a recidivist corporate felon and a serial killer of innocent Californians. While I voted against SB 901 and AB 1054 which aided and abetted this corporate felon, I voted for SB 350 because it finally lays the groundwork for real accountability. Too many people have died and too many homes and businesses have been destroyed because of PG&E’s willful negligence and greed. PG&E must step up and prove itself capable of delivering safe and reliable energy. If it can’t, its time for PG&E to be shut down once and for all.”
SB 350 authorizes the creation of a non-profit public benefit corporation to acquire the Pacific Gas & Electric Company and the Pacific Gas & Electric Corporation (collectively PG&E) under specified circumstances including its failure to exit its pending bankruptcy and if it fails in its safety performance under the terms of an enhanced oversight and enforcement process adopted by the California Public Utilities Commission. The measure was approved by the State Assembly on a 50 to 14 vote. The bill now heads to the State Senate for final consideration.
