Assemblymember Levine Pushing Plastic Bag Ban

(Sacramento) – Assemblymember Marc Levine (D-San Rafael) has authored Assembly Bill158 – which would prohibit a store with more than $2 million in annual sales or retailers with more than 10,000 square feet of floor space that also have a pharmacy from providing single-use plastic bags to customers. Plastic bags and plastic film together represent 2.2% of the waste stream and these bags take more than 1,000 years to breakdown. By banning single-use plastic bags, AB 158 will reduce the environmental and economic impacts of single-use bag pollution for inland and coastal communities throughout the state.
