Workplace Protections and Health Standards for Models

Wednesday, April 6, 2016

(Sacramento) – After learning of harrowing stories of financial, physical and emotional abuse in the modeling industry, Assemblymember Marc Levine (D-Marin County) authored Assembly Bill 2539 to create workplace protections and health standards for models. “For decades California has led the nation in our efforts to protect the rights of vulnerable workers,” Assemblymember Levine said at a state capitol news conference to discuss the legislation. “We made history by providing vital protections for farm workers. We were the first state in the country to ban smoking in the workplace. California leads the national effort to raise the minimum wage to a level that allows workers to provide for their families. AB 2539 continues California’s efforts to protect workers.” Learn more in this Assembly Access video.
