Assemblymember Levine Proclaims March as Prescription Drug Abuse Awareness Month

Monday, March 16, 2015

(Sacramento) – In an effort to raise awareness of the epidemic of prescription drug abuse, California State Assemblymember Marc Levine (D-San Rafael) introduced Assembly Concurrent Resolution 26.  ACR 26 proclaims March 2015 as Prescription Drug Abuse Awareness Month in California.

“Every day over 6,700 people are treated in emergency rooms across the nation for substance abuse,” said Levine.  “And every day an average of 120 people die as a result of a drug overdose.”

Even though the national numbers are staggering, in 2012, more people died from drug overdoses than breast cancer or vehicle accidents in Marin County.  To hear Assemblymember Levine’s entire presentation on ACR 26, watch this Assembly Access Video.
