New Assemblyman Marc Levine could play a key role if new revenue is sought

IN THE STATE Assembly, which begins its 2013-14 session on Monday, former San Rafael Councilman Marc Levine figures to be a wild card — a rare Democrat elected in November without the support of his party.

Democrats currently hold supermajorities in both chambers of the Legislature that could conceivably allow them to impose new taxes without the support of any Republican members.

Assemblymember Marc Levine Announces Committee Assignments

Today Assemblymember Marc Levine (D-San Rafael) announced his appointment to the following Assembly Committees by Speaker John A. Pérez:

  • Assembly Committee on Aging and Long-Term Care
  • Assembly Committee on Arts, Entertainment, Sports, Tourism and Internet Media.
  • Assembly Committee on Governmental Organization
  • Assembly Committee on Higher Education

In addition to today's committee assignments, Assemblymember Levine will serve as the Chair of the Select Committee on Agriculture and the Environment, and as Vice-Chair of the Assembly Committee on Local Government.

Levine Seeks Suggestions on How to Make Government Work Better

Newly elected Assemblyman Marc Levine, D-San Rafael, is inviting his constituents in Marin and Sonoma counties to submit their suggestions regarding how state government can be improved.

Levine says, "I want to hear about your experiences with agencies and your suggestions. The world is always changing. Technology and innovation are constantly making our lives easier. It is important for government to be mindful of new ways to do its job better."

Protecting our Coast

In response to the federally protected designation by President Obama on Thursday of the waters off the coast of Sonoma and Mendocino counties Assemblymember Marc Levine said:

“This designation will help protect the waters off some of the most beautiful coastline in America. I thank Congresswoman Woolsey, Senator Boxer and President Obama for having the vision to protect this fragile marine habitat.”

“We have all had experiences with various agencies – Be it the DMV office, Department of Consumer Affairs, Caltrans, State Parks, or other agencies.  In many cases, people walk away thinking, “There has to be a better way,” said Levine.  “I want to hear about your experiences with agencies and your suggestions.  The world is always changing.  Technology and innovation are constantly making our lives easier.  It is important for government to be mindful of new ways to do its job better.”

San Rafael City Council honors Marc Levine

The San Rafael City Council honored newly elected Assemblyman Marc Levine on Monday for his three years of service on the council.

Mayor Gary Phillips presented Levine with a resolution of appreciation.

Levine Takes Oath as Newest Assemblymember for 10th District

(SACRAMENTO) -  Marc Levine (D-San Rafael) was sworn in today as the Assemblymember for the 10th Assembly District, representing Marin and Southern Sonoma Counties.

"It is an honor and a privilege to represent the dynamic communities of Marin and Southern Sonoma in the Assembly," said Levine.  "The challenges facing California are tremendous and today, the real work begins."
